Florida Proposed Statute - Limitation on Building Design Restrictions

Under a proposed statute, Florida’s legislature would limit a local municipality’s ability to restrict exterior design elements of homes.

Reduction of Restrictions on Building Design - HB 55

This bill would limit a municipality’s ability to restrict a building’s exterior color, type of exterior cladding, style of roof or porches, exterior architectural features, styling and placement of windows and doors, number of rooms, or interior layout of rooms, unless the structure is a designated historical property or the regulations are required under the National Flood Insurance Program.
